Small loliginid attaining 12 cm ML. Suckers of arms ϊK and ϊL very large. Arm sucker ring with 9-11 (arms ϊKand ϊL) lunate teeth. Tentacular sucker ring with 18-23 lunate teeth. Left arm ϊM of male hectocotylized by lacking suckers in distal two-thirds replaced by palisade-like row of fleshy papillae. Without luminous organ. Commonly caught with seines and set-net.

Small and short loliginid attaining 10 cm ML. Resembles L. sumatrensis in having smooth rings on tentacular club. But differs from it in having 3-6 teeth, wider than high, in arm ϊL sucker rings, while L. sumatrensis with 6-9 teeth, height and width equal. Incidentally caught with other neritic squids and finfish. Loligo tagoi and L. gotoi are synonyms.

Small loliginid attaining 66 mm (‰) and 87 mm (Š) ML. MW 23-32% ML. Fins somewhat roundish. Arm suckers larger in male than female. Teeth of are chitinous ring squarish, especially the proximalmost one extends 1/2 to 1/3 of entire circumference, with 2-6 more teeth laterally and distally. Arm ϊM of male hectocotyized with palisade-like fleshy papillae in distal two-thirds. Tentacle club sucker with 18-30 sharp teeth. This is an embayment-oriented species among related squids. The occurrence of this species within Japan is limited only to Ariake Sea, Yatsushiro Sea and off Okayama Prefecture in the Inland Sea.

Resembles L. japonica but gives an impression of thinner body. Sucker rings of the arms ϊK and ϊL with broad long plate proximally and 6-9 square teeth distally. Central suckers of tentacular club with smooth rings. Loligo kobiensis Hoyle and L. yokoyae Ishikawa are synonyms. Abundantly caught in the Gulf of Thailand.
